UWF, Homecoming Showdown, against Delta State

It ‘s homecoming week in Pensacola, Florida, and the UWF Argos will take on the Delta State Statesmen Saturday.

The Statesmen are a very good team. Last week they took their first loss of the season to west Georgia bulldogs in a close top- 25 patch up. West Georgia and Delta State were the top two offenses in the Gulf South Conference. Last week’s game held both offenses in check for most of the game. The final score was 29-26.

West Florida on the other hand isn’t West Georgia. The second year program is 4-1 and looking pretty good after a solid win over Mississippi College, 28-14. The Argos defense is the strongest aspect of the team. So this weekend vs Delta State should test their ability to hold back and hopefully stop a strong offense.

Reggie Barnes leads the Argos defense in tackles with 39 total tackles on the year and 20 being tackles for losses. Andre Duncombe has emerged as a solid coverage linebacker. Duncombe has managed to secure a interceptions in back to back weeks. He has come on strong for the Argos in key moments.

The Argos made a few offenses adjustments going into the game against Mississippi College. The Argos started Grey Jackson for the first time. Grey was 10-21 for 101 yards. Jackson also rushed for a touchdown as well.

This could be a measuring stick for the Argos, because if they win Saturday for their homecoming, the Argos could be a playoff team in just year two. The Argos defense is strong enough to lead the Argos to a win against almost anyone in the country.

Come Saturday, we will know how good the Argos really are when they are put up against a top-10 team.
