The news broke Friday that Georgia’s 5-star freshman quarterback, Justin Fields, was transferring and heading to Ohio State. With that news being released, obviously we all can expect a giant quarterback battle in Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes already has a solid quarterback room with redshirt freshman, Tate Martell, leading the way. Many expected 2019 to be Martell’s year as the guy leading the Buckeyes, but with Fields coming in that could all change. Fields is an elite passer and runner. He backed up Jake Fromm at Georgia all last season with the hopes of winning the starting job from him. Fields might be competitive but Fromm is a competition junky. Just watch the QB1 documentary with Fromm in high school.
Martell is very competitive as well; in high school Martell lead the Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman to 3 National Championships in high school. Martell is a skilled runner, and he has improved in the passing ability. But what if he does not win the job??
Well I have a quick answer for you…. the Miami Hurricanes. Just think about it, Miami does not have a solidified starting quarterback. Martell could come in and win the job immediately. Tate is a good runner and a better passer than what we have seen from N’kosi Perry, and we have yet to see what Jarren Williams can do. Martell will have a solid defense on his side and a good set of running backs as well. Miami does not have a great offensive line, but I do believe that who ever is the offensive coordinator for Miami that they would move the pocket a lot more for Martell.
Miami has quick and fast receivers that are begging for a solidified quarterback who can allow their talent to show. With Manny Diaz at the helm, a Tate Martell might be a the shot in the arm Miami needs to get back up to speed.
