It’s been years since the legendary Corky Rodgers walked the sidelines for the Lee Generals as their head coach. Back then, the biggest game in the Jacksonville was Lee vs the Raines Vikings. That game brought thousands of fans to downtown Jacksonville to watch them play in the Gator Bowl because the games were that big. Now, decades later, the game is back.
Last season, the Lee Generals handed Raines their only loss of the season. Raines would finish the years as back-to-back state champions in the 4A class. Lee would go on to fall one game short of the 7A state championship game; falling to Edgewood out of Orlando.
In last years meeting, Lee prevailed 16-13 in what was a very defensive match-up. Now that both quarterbacks are gone from both teams, it will be interesting to see who steps up in their place. The two time defending champions are out to avenge the only loss on their resume from last year. The two coaches are 2 of the best in North Florida, and the adjustments they make in the second half will be the difference in the game.
Raines will be moving up a class to 5A.
