NFL updates the Rooney Rule

After another round of highly qualified minority coaches not getting a serious opportunity to get head coaching jobs in the NFL, the league has updated the Rooney Rule.

The Rooney Rule was established in 2003 with the goal of increasing opportunities for minorities to hold NFL head coaching positions. The NFL has updated its policy, requiring all 32 teams to interview at least two women and/or persons of color when seeking to fill prominent positions.

Furthermore, All NFL teams must add a minority offensive assistant coach. This is an official mandate because of the recent trend of offensive coordinators getting head coaching positions. These efforts are the league attempt to address the ongoing diversity hiring issues.

NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell has implemented a Diversity Advisory Committee. This group of individuals are outside experts to help evaluate the league for diversity.
