College football rankings: top-4 teams

They’re 4 teams in college football that are starting to emerge as the clear leaders after 5 weeks. I’m not saying that these 4 teams can’t be beaten, but they’re showing championship qualities.

1. Alabama

The injury to QB Bryce Young might be troublesome, but until we know the full picture the Tide will reside at the top.

After their near loss to Texas, the Tide have looked really good. The Tide has shown the ability to adjust in the second half or in critical moments no matter the score. Furthermore, the Tide has looked stronger as the season has progressed.

Nonetheless, the season is still far from over. The injury to Bryce Young could determine how far the Tide go.

2. Georgia

The Bulldogs had their first scare of the season against Missouri on Saturday. The offense did not score until late into the second half. The Dogs showed great mental fortitude to withstand falling behind for majority of the game.

QB Stetson Bennett continues to show progress and leadership. Bennett completed a little over 50% of his passes for 312 yards. However, for the second straight game Bennett did not throw a touchdown pass.

With that being said, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to throw into the end zone. It’s tough to win in todays game if you’re one dimensional in the red zone.

As for the defense, the Bulldogs gave up some yards here and there but nothing to be too concerned over. The defense is sitting at 6 sacks and interception.

3. Ohio State

Outside of week 1, the Buckeyes haven’t faced much resistance. QB C.J. Stroud has looked great all season long. The potential #1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has thrown 1,376 yards and 18 touchdowns this year.

Defensively, the Buckeyes have secured 10 sacks on the year to go along with the 3 interceptions. We can assume that the next couple of weeks will give us a good picture of who this Buckeyes team is.

Nevertheless, the Buckeyes look great thus far. Next weeks game against Michigan State might answer the much need questions that we have.

4. Clemson

This will come as a surprise to some, but Clemson is my #4 team in college football. In 2021, the Tigers did not look like what we’ve been accustom to from them. So far in 2022, the Tigers have improved week over week.

Unlike the other programs on this list, Clemson has faced multiple QBs who are considered 1st or 2nd round draft prospects. In each game, the Tiger have shown the ability to make the plays when they count.

Also, QB D.J. Uiagalelei has been great for the Tigers. In week 1, D.J. looked rusty and not as confident as as returning starter. However, the former 5-star prospect has dominated since. He’s already thrown more touchdowns (11) this season then he did all of last year (9).

Furthermore, the defense has 11 sacks on the year to go along with the 6 interceptions. Not to mention, the defense has also forced 4 fumbles and recovered 3.

As the season goes on, the Tigers will most likely cruise to an undefeated season. FSU and Notre Dame are the toughest tests left on their schedule. I believe Clemson can book their ticket to the college football playoffs right now.
