2023 NFL Draft Player Profile: Xavier Smith

Xavier Smith

Xavier Smith breakdown

Position: Wide Receiver

School: Florida A&M or FAMU

Year: Senior

Measurables: 5’10 170 pounds

Player Overview:

The heart and soul of the FAMU offense in 2022 begins with Xavier Smith. At 5’10 170 pounds, Smith became the only receiver from an HBCU to produce over 1,000 yards receiving. To go along with the 1,000 yards receiving, Smith scored 11 touchdowns on 87 receptions in 2022 as well. He is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, and was awarded 1st-team All-SWAC

Pros:

Smith is a very quick receiver that is a nightmare for corners in man-to-man coverage. IN 2021, Smith had another standout season and was very reliable for the Rattlers. As a quick smaller wide receiver, Smith has very quick feet and uses that ability to run crisp routes. No matter if it’s a screen pass, quick slant, or a deep ball, Smith can make a defense pay when thrown his way. The game to watch would be the game against North Carolina. Smith recorded 10 receptions for 78 yards.

Additionally, Smith production shows him to be very consistent game in and game out.

Cons

The biggest con for Xavier Smith is that he comes from a smaller school. The challenge is whether or not he can have the same amount of production with much better competition. However, we have seen other receivers of his size from even smaller schools get an opportunity to be great in the NFL. Furthermore, his size could come into question. Smith is listed at 5’10, but could be closer to 5’9.

Best Fit: Baltimore Ravens

Draft Projection: Round 4-7
