No one thought that when Florida won the national championship in 2006 that conference would have a representative in each and every championship game, with 2014 being the exception.
It is without a doubt the greatest run by a conference in modern sports history. However, we came close to seeing it once again.
Ohio State was 1 point away from pulling off the upset. Quarterback CJ Stroud played arguably his second best game of his career in his last game. Only the 2021 Rose Bowl performance could top what he did against Georgia.
Stroud threw for 348 yards and 4 touchdown, while rushing for 34 yards. This game was a true testament to the talent the Buckeyes have on their roster at the receiver position.
Projected 1st round receivers Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. both went for over a 100 yards receiving with a combined 3 touchdown catches. Harrison would leave the game early.
The Buckeyes jumped out to a 38-24 lead heading into the 4th quarter. However, Georgia’s quarterback Stetson Bennett had that “Dawg” in him and brought his team back.
Bennett would throw for 398 yards and 3 touchdowns with 1 rushing touchdown. His late game winning touchdown pass to put Georgia up 42-41 with 54 seconds remaining was on the money.
In that last 54 seconds, Stroud got Ohio State to the 32 yard line for a 50 yard field goal. Unfortunately, Noah Ruffles would miss wide left to send Georgia back to the national championship game to face TCU.
