We’re not far away from the media considering Jalen Hurts a backup quarterback in the league, but now Jalen Hurts is the highest paid player in NFL history.
On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts agreed to a n extension worth $255 million over five-years. $179.3 million of the deal is guaranteed.
After leading the Eagles to back-to-back playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance, the deal is well worth it. The Eagles can continue to build the roster around Hurts.
Hurts agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports Group, negotiated the deal. Right before Hurts left for the NFL, Lynn reached out to Hurts via social media to see about representing him.
Now, just three years after making that connection, Hurts and Lynn have signed the largest NFL deal in history.
At 24 years old, Hurts will have the opportunity for another contract in the near future. Hurts has one of the best receiving cores in the NFL. With just 34 starts, Hurts has made strides in his short career.
In 2022, Hurts was an MVP candidate, threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns. Not to mention the 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
In the Super Bowl, Hurts had one of his best games of his career. He threw for 304 total yards and 1 touchdown, and rushed for 70 yards a 3 touchdowns.
His performance officially surpassed former Eagles great quarterback Donavan McNabb.
Baring any injuries, Hurts is on a great path on and off the field.
Ultimately, this contract is a win for both sides. The Eagles lock up a young but vey mature star quarterback. Additionally, the Eagles can focus on retooling the other pieces around Hurts.
