Finally, the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers have come to an agreement to send Aaron Rodgers to the Jets.
The Jets will be sending their 2023 1st, 2nd, and 6th round picks to Green Bay. The Packers will send their 2023 1st and 5th round picks along with Rodgers.
Jets Front Runners
Will this move make the Jets immediate front runners for the AFC East? Not necessarily. Rodgers hasn’t won a Super Bowl in over a decade. Not to mention, the Jets haven’t seen the big game since 1969.
Furthermore, the Buffalo Bills are stacked with quality talent that has played in really big games. Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen is still the big guy in the room. While the New England Patriots aren’t as dominant as they once were, the Patriots could still cause problems.
Even so, the Miami Dolphins are the team with the hot hand in the division. In 2022, the Dolphins started off really hot, but began to fizzle once Tua got injured.
It’s too early to tell if the Dolphins 2022 start was real or a fluke.
Needless to say, Rodgers makes the Jets immediate contenders in the AFC overall. The Jets roster is built well to succeed immediately. With the added pieces Rodgers requested, the Jets could make a serious run in the playoffs.
Packers Moving On
The Packers can officially call the 2023 season a rebuilding year. No one has seen what Jordan Love can really do on the field. He’s had stents as the starter, but it was a known fact that he was returning to the bench.
Love, the former 1st round pick in the 2020 draft, has huge shoes to fill. We can admit that this will be a make or break year for Love. If Love does well, the Packers probably won’t be picking high enough in the 2024 draft to get the expected #1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
However, if the Packers start to lose, I would not be surprised if the franchise made a decision to go for the #1 overall pick.
Needless to say, the Packers still have a young roster that developed well as the 2022 season went along.
Ultimately, the winners of this trade could be seen as a stalemate. The Jets got their quarterback and the Packers get to test Love or aim for the #1 pick in 2024.
